How does this pair with the Sabre SV as a midlayer? Is the double hood annoying? Too warm for 20-40 days?

Not sure about the Sabre, but I love this jacket. Like previously mentioned, if you are putting out some work you may be toasty in this alone at 40*; you would probably love it around 25*. I wear this this and a T-shirt when I walk the dog in 45-50* and stay warm. That is a slow, steady pace. But I would say due to the versatility and and size/weight of this piece I will stuff this and a paclite shell in a stuff sack and take it everywhere I go.

The Atom is a great midlayer for the sabre. The smooth face fabric slides well underneath the fleece backing of the sabre. It is also moves very well with the body durig activity. I have the hooded version and do not find it to be a problem with 2 hoods. The atoms hood does not fit well over a helmet but I rarely use it. For the temps you described the Atom can be a bit toasty for my liking. It will depend on how warm your body is and how hard you are working.
