I agree with Jamie. I am 6'0" and 165lbs and the L is pretty big. If you like your pants with baggier fit then the larges may work, but I preferred the fit of the Ms much better (especially for high output activities such as backcountry skiing).

I cannot speak to all your questions, but these run large. I ordered a L at 6'1" / 175 and they were way to roomy.
