my boyfriend is an electrition, works outside A LOT, will these pants be warm enough or should i get the heavier ones and just get lighter ones come summer?

Sort of depends on where you are, Claire. Here in Alaska, no they would not. :) Winter in southern California, sure. If you are somewhere where winter has teeth, Carhartt makes lined work pants that would be super warm.
