Ian. The DryQ Elite Softshell fabric used in this Snowtastic Jacket is completely waterproof, breathable, and air permeable and would function as a stand alone rain shell in the coldest of rainy conditions. Keeping in mind that cold and rain usually happens around the high thirties lower forties you would probably have layers on underneath... correct? If so, I think you would be happy with this jacket. Thanks!
