Size concerns...
I am 5'10" and thin (145lb, 30" waist, 32" inseam, ~37" chest), and this suit only comes in S/M/L. Is there any hope of one of these being a close, athletic fit for me without being too short?

The waist on size M is 32-34", so I would think that would be too much material for me. Do you have one?

Mul. We have very similar dimensions and I would get a medium. It is made out of Polartec's Powestretch and, as a result, is extremely stretchy! I think you will find the fit to be just right to wear as a baselayer! Enjoy!
