I like to think of the Porter as a "Quick and Dirty" pack for travel. When you might need to check it, the straps and hipbelt zip away so they won't catch on anything. Then you need to tote it around, it won't throw your back out using a shoulder strap. The Waypoint 65 is more of a Cadillac of travel packs. The harness and hipbelt is MUCH CUSHIER and the pack is torso sized so--if you get the correct size--the carry of this pack is similar to a fancy backpacking pack. It will carry weight without feeling like it is carrying all that weight. There is a cover for the harness and hipbelt (again if you need to check it). Did I mention the zip-off day pack that comes with the Waypoint 65? Or that there is a women's specific made more for a woman's dimensions? The bonus of the Porter 65 is it's simplicity. Also, it is frameless so it is easier to squeeze in overhead compartments. Lastly, if you get a pack called the Daylight, it snaps to the front "D" loops that are on the Porter, giving you a removeable daypack. The Waypoint has a frame to it so it will not fit in most overhead compartments easily. It will carry much better AND if you are towards the ends of the spectrum of torso lengths (smaller or longer), this will carry SO MUCH BETTER than the Porter... The Porter is great for the middle 80% but the 10% on either end should look towards something sized--like the Waypoint. Wow. Do you want me to sign this novel I just wrote? :)
