By the picture, it looks like there is some padding in the cups. Is that accurate, or does it just look that way?

There is no padding in this bra. The cups are "knitted" cups, so you have room for the girls without completely squishing them. The bra is also 'seamless' around the chest area (straps on sewn on--rest is seamless technology). It's great for less chafing!! I've done up to 15 mile runs in this bra and have had no problem with chafe. It super comfortable!
