I am going on a day hiking trip to Canada. No back packing, just daily hikes. Is this Hayden shoe appropriate for that application?

Yes, it is. I was in a TNF San Francisco store today and handled the shoe. It is very flexible and comfortable right off the bat. I would wear it day hiking, no questions asked.This shoe is not ideal for day hiking the sole is thin and not stiff. This shoe is great for hiking on pavement but a trail might be too much.
