Has anyone tried to layer two of these under a shell for extra warmth? It might require for example an XL over a L but I was thinking about trying it - Reason being that two thin layers supposedly work better than one thicker layer.

I would just go with Ryan's suggestion or a Micro Puff. More insulation, heavier shell fabric, and a windflap behind the zipper. At half the cost of two Nano Puffs.

Haven't tried that but I'd think that going with two different types of layers would be better and provide more options. Like starting with a thick fleece then the nano puff, then a shell or some other layer.
