will this protect me against wet ground, or do i need to buy the floor too?

This mesh tent has a floor, so the separate floor is not needed. You do want a tarp (e.g. Shangri-La 4) if you expect any precipitation. I hope that helps.

You'll not only need a floor but also a canopy if you plan on camping anywhere there's rain or moisture. This shelter is great for a night in the desert.
