They maintain most of there insulation value when wet, but they are not windproof and need a layer to cut the breeze. This is especially true when wet. Overall a super sweet under layer.

in sub freezing temps they will do fine as long as they stay mostly dry. as this is not a waterproof shell, these will get wet and heavy. but layered with a waterproof layer over them, they will do well to keep you warm.
