Any idea if the Baro works when flying? (vertical speeds of +/- 2-4 m/s) Not for use as a primary altimeter I know, but a barometer would be nice to have when a storm is moving in.

i used it in a cessna 402 and the altitude readings were pretty close to what i was getting from the panel read out. of course we didn't go higher than 10k feet...

It is a single sensor. Altitude is calculated based on the barometric pressure reading. Thus, changing your altitude "fixes" the barometric reading so changes in altitude can be displayed. You can switch between them, leave it at one reading, or have the watch switch automatically. However, if it switches automatically, it does take several seconds to do so, and ultimately it would be unlikely that it would provide any sort of meaningful or useful readings to predict inclement weather.

It would be for gliding in an unpressurized cockpit. The highest altitude we can go is either cloudbase (usually 11k-13k) or 18k. There is a lot of ascending and descending involved and I was wondering if that would throw the barometric readings off. I'm guessing that it is a single pressure sensor and a computer determines if the drop in pressure is due to meteorological conditions or climbing.

Depends on what you're flying, as long as the cabin isn't pressurized it all should work fine, probably to certain altitudes, I know people have worn them on mountains to 20000+ feet and got accurate baro/alti readings.
