While this shell is not insulated, it will hold the heat in if your activity level is high. On a windy day with temps on the low to mid 30's F, I had to shed the fleece I was wearing underneath and open the vents fully. Even then, I was still working up a sweat. This was a particularly strenuous canyon hike/scramble.

Not any appreciable amount. It's meant to be a secondary layer, not a winter coat.
