I don't know what to make of this one...I've had it for about a year, not been used too extensively, but here's what I noticed. I filled it with water and left it in horizontal position on the table on its back. It seems that eventually the mesh material from the back gave up and the water dripped all through it on the table and it was all soaked. Was this to be a "design" thing? Why wouldn't it hold the water inside for more than a day?

It should hold water for multiple days and it should not leak laying horizontal. You have a defective reservoir and if you bought it from here I would exchange it. You could also contact Osprey and they will work with you.
