Hi,
I still wonder if that jacket is really durable enough for wearing on extended hikes with a 50 lb backpack or if the fabric will get damaged and will not remain waterproof after a few weeks on the trail. What do you think?
Thanks,
Paul

It would probably be okay, but if you're really worried about it, instead get a jacket made with Goretex. Almost all of the other waterproof/breathable materials that are proprietary technologies of a clothing manufacturer, such as HyVent, are a polyurethane coating sprayed onto the face fabric. Goretex and eVent are a laminate membrane created separately, then bonded to the face fabric. Whereas the PU coatings will crack and peel, the laminate membranes won't. I've worn through HyVent in only 4 months before.
