because celsius and fahrenheit are not the same scale (1 degree F is = to 5/9 degree C) they must converge at some point- and this point is -40...after -40, celsius will be the less negative temperature reading (ie, -50C = -58F).

Just checked a couple other sites... -40F/-40C. Not sure why -40 in both F and C, but I guess at that point it's just cold no matter how you look at it
