I GOT TO BUY A COMPASS SOON FOR SCHOOL, THIS MIGHT BE ONE SIDED SINCE IM ON THE BRUNTON SITE BUT, ITS BETWEEN 2 COMPASSES THE BRUNTON 15TDCL OR THE SLIVA RANGER, WHICH ON SHOULD I GET? HAS ANYONE HAD EXPERENCE WITH BOTH?

thanks Phil will deffently get the sliva ranger then thats what my teacher has told me to get but i do not like the split sight glass but i reckon i can get use to it. All im going to ues it for is to cruise timber through some rough terrain just saw the Brunton and didnt know much about it but thanks for the info. (justin Graham)

The Ranger is a better made instrument IMO. I have to ask- what are you using it for at school? If you want something that's simple, accurate, and costs much less, why not consider a base plate compass? If you don't mind spending some more, and if you can find it, see if you can get a hold of a Brunton 54LU online somewhere. Most incredibly easy and accurate compass that I've ever used. I just taught my kid to close a circle with a 5 mile radius by turning angles and then doing the math, and was amazed at how accurate it was using front and back azimuths to directly sight targets and stay on course using the little window in the bezel, even through trees (1st try, he closed a perfect 360 degrees through some really ugly terrain). But, again, if it's between the Ranger and the 15TDCL, it's the Silva. Hope that helps.
