How well does e gear windmill lighter in the classic or trekker work above tree line and in higher altitude enviroments?

I'm wondering the same thing, Dean's explanation doesnt explain why Bic's seem to light above 10,000 ft, or is plain old flint a better ingition system than Piezo above 10k

High altitude burning is about the fuel... most fuels have issues burning at 50% or greater flame at elevations above 10k... With the right ignition system, I have found most will light and make a flame above 10k, but will not burn very high... so depending on your elevation, I wouldn't rely solely on these types of lighters...
