Hey there - I am not sure what kind of stuff you are carrying through the airport, but I am thinking for general carry on stuff, this is great. awesome for day hikes!

The size is perfect in my opinion. I always carried The North Face Hot Shot pack (2015cu), which was the perfect size for day hikes and traveling through airports. If you are like me though, I don't like having the full waist-belt for my day pack. It's just too bulky, and I never use a belt unless I'm on the trail. I prefer the simple tuck-away waist belt. But if you look at the 2nd user picture of the 34, it looks like they lay pretty flat if you want to tuck them behind your back when not in use. Just something to keep in mind.
