Actually the Arete is a little more durable. The shell material marmot uses on the atom, hydrogen, helium, lithium is ultra light and a little less durable and down proof than that on the Arete, arrayo, pinnacle, col, and cwm.

Good Questions. You are correct, the main difference is the Atom is using a higher fill power (850 vs 800) making it slightly lighter and a bit more durable. With these warmer weather bags there is less of an difference in weights between 800 and 850 since they use less fill. Overall, they are both great bags and it's hard to go wrong with either one.
