I have just purchased a replacement cartrige for my purifier....

I have just purchased a replacement cartrige for my purifier. My old cartrige has the "in" port nipple on the cartrige but the new cartrige has none. Does part of the old cartrige have to be removed and placed into the new cartige, and if so, how does this come off? I have about a 25 year system.

sounds like your older system isnt the same. the MSR version of the sweetwater (& I think the older Sweetwater Guardian is the same) has the input nipple on bottom of the red pump cylinder that screws inside the cartridge - it then appears exposed underneath the unit to connect to the "in" hose
