Darn Tough makes the better sock. Better fit=superior fit inside boots, less blisters. Finer gauge yarn/fine gauge machines= more stitches per inch, better wicking, better cushioning, far more durable. The lifetime warranty is the kicker. It is an unconditional satisfaction lifetime guarantee. Plus made in Vermont

I love Smartwool socks, but I love Darn Tough socks more. They're just as comfy, but way less bulky and much more durable. It also seems as though they keep your feet at optimum temperature no matter what. Having written this review, I'm going to buy a couple more of these socks.

Howdy, I really dig on the Darn Tough socks.. I feel the durability factor is just off the charts. I own about a dozen pairs of each (Smartwool & Darn Tough) and after a year of outdoor pursuits, I have to retire my Smartwools to casual, in-town use. (Meanwhile, I've had one pair of DTs for six years and I still hike in them, along with all the other ten or eleven) They're still comfy as all getup, but the sock looses its cushioning and elasticity. I never dry my woolies, and wash them in cold water. This has happened to a couple of paddling & climbing buddies, as well as my brother and dad. We're all sold on the Darn Toughs... You could always but a pair of each and make your own decisions.
