It is a little bit heavy for a day pack in theory. It works really well for me.

For its features specific to snow travel, this pack is at a fairly competitive weight - compare with the Osprey Kode series. If you are willing to sacrifice features, check out the Arcteryx Cierzo series. Barebones, light and tough. Also, I hate to recommend this on Backcountry.com, but REI's flash 18 is a phenomenal pack - for $30.
