Hi Deborah here is a little wikipedia article about half dome. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half_Dome As Mike mentioned it is the inspiration for The North Face logo and is used as the name for this pant. Hope that helps.

It really has nothing to do with the pants. That only refers to the North Face logo and their theme so they name some products with it.
