I'm looking for a light softshell and I'm deciding between this jacket and the Patagonia Men's Simple Guide. Both jackets have the same price and seem very similar -- light stretchy softshell, 3 outer pockets, cuff closures.. can anyone list any functional differences between the two jackets? Thanks!

xtekian. They are very similar jackets albeit slightly different in weight and fabric. The fabric that we use in the Mountain Hardwear Offwidth is called TuffStretch and is composed of 58% Nylon, 31% Polyester, and 11% Elastane. It is a 4-way stretch double weave fabric which has a durable tightly woven nylon face coupled with soft wicking polyester loops on the inside. This extremely tough fabric combo is topped off with a durable water repellent finish. In contrast, the Patagonia piece is made with 91% Recycled Polyester and 9% Spandex. The Patagonia Jacket weighs approximately 365 grams and the Offwidth Jacket weighs 571 grams. Due to the fabric combo and slight weight difference I would say the Hardwear Jacket will probably be more durable and slightly warmer that the Patagonia Jacket in the long run. I hope this comparison helps!
