Will this help locate youself in the case that you become trapped in an avalanche? Or is it simply for finding others?

The beacon will help you track others that are buried, and help them locate you if you're buried. Never go into avalanche terrain without it, and really take the time to learn how to use it effectively. Same goes for the shovel and probe. The tools will only do their job as long as the person using them knows how to do theirs.
