How warm is this hat? I have 7 3/4 size head, would this hat cover my ears.

I have a 7-1/4 head size and with the cuff in the proper position it covers half of my ears. However, this hat is very warm, but thin. I have other synthetic polyester beanies from Coal that were in the $20 range that are thicker, but would choose the cashmere any day for warmth, style, and comfort.
