How breathable are these pants? I'm planning on hiking a section of the AT in late spring/early summer. Would you recommend these for that purpose?

Buy them! their light weight, durable and breathe well! I have the hail tech as well and use them for both outdoors and work here in FL. Great wind breakers! I wear them with both shorts and pants in all temps. Quick on and off and I have yet to tear them, even putting them on over boots. Their not cheap or flimsy, have pass through pockets and adjust at the ankle. I will never waste my money on frog togs, ponchos or just plain old crappy gear to save weight and sacrafice comfort. These and the Columbia light/fast shell are my primary rain system on all trips. Both are light and packable. I have a pic of them in action in my review of the hail tech's, Another of my best buys!!!

They should work fine for that purpose. They breathe ok for the material they are made of. You are probably not going to wear them unless it is raining or cool conditions.
