Greetings. I am looking for a mountaineering boot compatible with my BD Sabretooth Pro Crampons that demand a heel welt to attach properly. I cannot see in any photos or descriptions if this boot actually has a heel welt or not. If not, what does it mean for a boot to be "crampon compatible?" Is this designation simply referring to the steel shank in the sole? Thanks!

This boot is designed for use with BD Pro's or vis-a-vers-a. Some boots have heel welts and no toe welt, but never the other way around. So if it has a toe welt it has a heel welt. I have Cyborg Pro's; same attachment/binding set up as the Sabretooth Pro's. If you strap them on right and tighten the knob good, they'll never come loose. Know the type of climbing you are interested in. This suggestion seems pretty obvious enough, but you really should know what type of climbing activity you want to use your Crampons for. In this way, you are ensured that you are buying the right kind of Crampons for your intended activity. For example, you wouldn't want to buy Rigid Crampons when you intend to use it a variety of climbing activities since Rigid Crampons are used for very specific climbing conditions. etal http://www.abc-of-mountaineering.com/articles/cramponsgearguide.asp The Makalu's are solid and light. Their angle launches you forward for accents. The fit well and I am breaking them in; no trips yet. As I said before, they lock in solid when you lace 'em up and BD Pro's luv'm.
