Caleb, these are made with a 3 layer Gore-Tex Performance hard shell. I suppose this could work in extremely cold climes, but in my mind not the intended use. I could see myself easily overheating with all but the slowest paces in - 15 degree temps. You could vent with the side zips, but I think you would be better off with a wind proof soft shell for such a highly aerobic sport. For most of my winter XC tours and runs I wear a simple tight like Under Armour cold gear or a power stretch. Not for everybody. But, like all things you can make it work if you want to. Good luck!
