I've used mine plenty of times for reading and filling out paperwork.

I have used mine for reading. You can get some glare if the paper is glossy (such as a magazine) but it is fine for reading a book.

I find that the low white on the Tikka Plus 2 is too bright for reading at night, but the red option LED works really well - so, yes, there is a great setting for reading at night, but it happens to be red.

It has a high and a low white light setting. The low would be suitable for reading. Most headlamps have 3 different white light settings (high, medium, low). You could also look at others like the Petzl Tactikka which would give you that extra level of lighting to fit exactly how much light you need.
