After reading the reviews on here I am going back and forth between getting this jacket in M or L.
...I want to use fleece or a down sweater under it in the winter...I am 5'9" and about 140lbs.
Can somebody tell me the length in the back of a L and the hip and/or chest measurement? Maybe that would help...

I am your size, and the medium is plenty big. I also wear with a down sweater. Caveat: I am fairly small in the shoulders and torso, and usually wear either a small or a medium in jackets. If you are distributed differently, and usually wear a medium or large, maybe the large.
