how stable are these skis when carving in variable snow / hardpack conditions? also, i've heard that the flex is softer than the old xxl's. how is this possible if they still have 2 sheets of metal in them? is it possible that its just the tip rocker that makes them feel softer and easier to ski?

The flex is way softer and a much more manageable ski. It still holds up great in variable snow and hard pack but skis like a dream in soft snow!

This ski is as stable as a truck at speed, calm on hardpack, rolls over variable snow with ease but be careful with sharp dips as the tip upturn is minimal and the rocker very subtle. Flex is indeed much softer than XXL's, but they appear to have 2 sheets of titanal. The LPR 115 needs a lot of energy (or speed) to turn, possibly not the best choice for tight trees but money in wide open places.
