Looking for a day-pack to hold my laptop...Is this one big enough? I live away from campus and need to carry 3x large text book + laptop all day. I want something comfortable and big enough, I also do alot of biking and hiking around, hoping to get duel purpose out of it. This one seems small, especially compared to the Marmot Gunnison or Oxprey Helix. Not to mention I really like the Osprey and Marmot bags, but there day-packs aren't really designed to carry laptop. Would it be better to find a shell for the laptop and get one of the Osprey or Marmot packs?

Yes, if you are planning on carrying large text books and a loptop. The Columbia shield2 is going to be more of a pack that you can use to carry your laptop and a book (not large text books) or two. Here are the dimensions 19" x 12.5" x 8". That should give you a bit of a better idea on what this pack will hold. I would recommend grabbing a laptop sleeve and picking up an Osprey or Marmot pack. They will be a bit more durable and they will offer more space for carrying your books.
