The pack material itself is coated and waterproof, but the seams are not. It is going to take quite a bit of rain for things to get super wet inside this pack. It is probably pretty easy to track down a rain cover for it if you are in a very wet climate.This would definitely help the waterproofness of this pack:http://www.backcountry.com/store/MOU0123/Mountainsmith-Rain-Covers.html
