Write your question here...Hi, I live in the Chicago area and want, if possible, a standalone jacket for the winter. Just for casual use to keep me warm and dry. Any from Arcteryx? Thanks.

Ivan, I find that this Firee jacket is warmer than the kappa AR when worn over just a T-shirt. My wife owns the Kappa SV (the SV version has more grams of primaloft "stuffing" than the AR), but it's also pretty hardcore. If I were you I'd go with the hooded version of the Firee, this jacket is very warm and casual.

Chicago- I imagine windy, humid and cold. This Firee is a great jacket, but it's not totally windproof (blocks about 90%) and it's water resistant. If you don't need mid-winter protection, it would be great. I'd suggest looking at the Kappa Hoody-it's Primaloft insulated Windstopper, but doesn't look like most insulated jackets- no marshmellow effect. The Kappa will keep you toasty through all the winter conditions, and the hood might be your best friend if it's really blowin' and snowin'. For maximum protection-Fission AR or SV-totally waterproof, too.
