I am a big back country skier, and a looking for a versatile shell, something that will be cool enough for touring, but also good layered coming down. I have a Patagonia nano puff jacket, and was thinking of layering the two. Would this combo work for some powder skiing? I dont need a skirt

I would say that there are better options out there. This is an amazing jacket, but if you're going to be beating on it falling on snow and ice and possible encounters with trees and things I would recommend something more durable. It is super light and packs down to be tiny, but in accomplishing those two things they sacrifice a bit of durability and breathability with just the GORE-TEX Packlite. In addition, to save weight they only put the zip halfway down, which I imagine would get annoying pretty quick if you had to keep taking it on and off.

The Alpha SL pullover would work great for such use. I have a preference for the Alpha LT jacket because it has better breathability and durability, but it's also more expensive. The Alpha SL pullover is a killer jacket for it's weight and price, and it's rolls down to sandwich size for packing.I fold the arms in to the center and roll it from the bottom hem, up into the hood, and use the hood cinch to keep it tight. This is the best way to pack it tightly, not stuffed into the pocket.
