I see that there is a zipper on the back panel to get into the main compartment. What is the point of that? Does the front zipper also allow access to the main comportment, or is it a smaller partition? How big is the smaller compartment?

The point of the back panel unzipping is so you can get into the big/main compartment to get your avi gear easy if your skis or board are attached to the outside of the pack.
