Are these Boots Overkill for My Needs?
I'm in the market for a new pair of hiking boots with some light to medium winter capabilities. I'll be using these mainly three season but also anticipate using them several times per year on winter climbs involving crampons...not necessarily vertical ice, but steep neve.
My question...will I be hating life during non-winter months? Are these boots versatile enough for hiking/backpacking during the summer? Or should I get a lighter duty boot?
I've seen a number of comments from people stating that they used these boots in the desert, etc...are these comments for real?
TIA,
Geoff

Any heavy duty backpacking boot, and for that matter mid duty support hiking boot that offers support is going to be warmer then a breathable hiking shoe or trail runner. From what you described, these boots will meet and exceed your needs with a good sock. The only caution I would give you is not to compare these to a lightweight hiker - they are not. They offer more versatility but that comes with the price tag of not being quite as light or being extremely comfortable on mid summer day hikes.

These are the closest thing I have found to a do-anything, go-anywhere boot. I haven't used crampons with them, but they do have that capability. Yes, they are going to be warmer than tennis shoes in the summer, but its a small price to pay for the protection and stability.
