Is this glove really thin enough to be worn as a second liner in gloves? They look maybe too thick.

No, unless you have a huge mitten that your are placing them into. I am in between a medium and a large. I go with a large in Dakine, because the medium is just to tight fitting but the large is just oversized enough to be roomy but not bulky for dexterity.
