I have the older katanas with the powder groove, is the new design that much better that I should upgrade? Thanks if you have an answer.

The only thing I could add to that is that the new Katana is also more durable. Like the Explosiv this ski will go down in the books as one the best of all time!

Yes! The new Katana is a completely different ski. The slight rocker makes all of the difference. It is a little more forgiving and playful. It is also a lighter so that it floats more in powder. This years Katana is the most fun ski I have ever skied on. It rips!
