Looking to buy a guaranteed winner as a wind and snow barrier for extremely cold weather endurance. it will be an out layer.
I am 6 foot 3 and 200-210lbs. What size do you recommend and how breathable is this jacket for extended use. thinking 50 plus hours.

Thanks

also considering the Theta SV and the Venta SV

I disagree about the extra large. I'm 6'3", 225lbs and I wear a large in this jacket. Amazing jacket. I've done everything from resort skiing, to backcountry skiing, to climbing Cascade peaks, to summitting Denali. When I am climbing in temps down to 10 degrees, I can easily wear just this shell and a thin wool shirt underneath. When I stop, I throw a puffy over the top of this jacket. I suppose if you were going with tons of layers, then you might do an extra large, but at my size, one or two shirts and a fleece still fit perfectly under the jacket. That said, the fit is slim because that is more practical for climbing/skiing and it looks better. Best shell made for anything technical. I always put down over the top of a hard shell. Never underneath. If it is cold enough for down, then it is really, really cold and there is no chance of getting the down wet. IMO if you size this jacket to go over down it will be huge and impractical.

My opinion is that the Alpha SV is still your best choice. Arguably the best severe weather hard shell in the world. The Theta is basically the same jacket, but with a longer cut. The Venta is a soft shell. It could be used as a mid layer under either, or alone, but if you're looking to block out the elements, the hard shells are the way to go. One thing to consider when you're designing your layering system is that when you double up Gore-Tex, you hinder the breathability of the inner piece, and some people tend to find it too hot. Put a quality down jacket under the Alpha and you're basically ready to face some absolutely insane conditions.

This would be the one then. You'll want the XL. Very breathable and core venting via front and pit zips. 50 hours can give you temps all over the place, so you're likely to have to play with your layering along with it.
