Skiing the 2010 Gotamas in 186 but thinking about stepping up...

Skiing the 2010 Gotamas in 186 but thinking about stepping up to the new Katanas. What will I gain/loose? Been reading that the Katanas ski "short"? What does that mean in comparison with the length of the Gotamas? Are the 190 Katanas simply 4 cm longer than than the 186 Goatmas or?? I´m 180 cm and 85 kg.

Gotama to Katana sizing is as follows... 170 Gotama = 176 Katana, 178 G = 183 K, 186 G = 190 K, 194 G = 197 K ... This has led to much internal debate and I can't tell you why it works out this way just that both skis ski great. As Jess said you'll gain high speed variable snow stability and float in the powder in the Katana and a more playful versatility with the Gotama. Hope this helps.

Yes. The Katanas ski shorter. I ski a 178 Gotama and a 183 Katana. As far as what you will gain/loose. The Katana is not quite as much fun on the groomers or in the bumps, but is legends ahead in powder and crud. The Katana rips in variable conditions. It is a little stiffer due to the metal in the ski and not quite a snappy, but more stable at high speeds. I ski my Gotama on hard pack days, otherwise my Katana is my go to ski.

I have the 190cm Katanas (2009/10) and the 186cm Gotamas (also 2009/10). They are almost exactly the same length. I originally got the next shorter Katanas but returned them because I thought they would be too short.
