I'm going to Moscow, Russia this winter. I'm in need of a good winter coat. I just bought this Downtown Jacket due to it's length. After receiving it I'm questioning how warm this could be. It seems so thin. It may do well in 30 degree weather, but I'm not sure about 0-20 degree weather. I'm thinking the Sub Zero jacket instead now, but I really want the extra length of this Downtown Jacket.

Can anyone attest to the warmth in 0-20 F weather? Also how about it's wind protection and waterproof. Maybe looks/feel can be deceiving, but I'm having a problem thinking this jacket's going to live up, and there's no way I'm getting off the plane in Russia without a good jacket!

Oh and there definitely are not any thumb loops, this really should be taken off the description of the jacket.

It depends on how warm or cold you tend to be. I'm always freezing so for 0°F I'd definitely get something warmer - however, there are plenty of folks below who say they've kept warm in those temps, so it's really up to your personal comfort level. I used to live in New Hampshire where 0°F temperatures that dip into -20°F and -30°F with wind chill weren't uncommon at all. I tested TONS of coats and found that on the really bitterly cold days with biting wind, the North Face Triple C was the best. I LOVED it. It protected well from the wind and the ankle-length and 700-fill really made a difference vs. lower fill coats. I'd pull the puffy hood up over a fleece hat, mittens, and knee-high boots and I was warm from my head to my feet. It was great. I got it on sale for ~$150, which was a great price. If you're looking for something knee-length that's also super warm, I'd recommend the Patagonia Downtown Loft if you've got the dough to spend. It's super stylish and has a way cuter fit. In general, all of these coats will be water resistant but not water proof. You'll need to look into technical down parkas to find waterproof fabric. Hope this is helpful! Udachi!
