I was given one as a gift for my birthday. Living in Washington state I spent a lot of time hiking and camping many of the coastal areas. Lighter was awesome. Had it taken when I couldn't bring it into a federal building so I bought another. Started climbing some mountains and found out the hard way this thing doesn't light on the tops of mountains. 10k is not going to happen and 14k is only going to work if you brought some bottled oxygen. Bottom line if you are staying around coastal and wet areas this lighter is excellent becuase of the heat it produces. If you are going to be climbing with it don't waste your money, Bic has your lighter.

Doesn't work at altitude. I have never got it to light about 10k. I was outdone by a bunch of old guys with Zippo's and Bic's. *More proof you get wiser as you get older. *Past results do not guaruntee future performance.

I'd like to quote bc.com's disclaimer:"*This piezo lighter may have trouble operating at altitudes above 8,000 feet." I borrowed this same lighter from a friend last summer & had lighting problems authenticating the aforementioned disclaimer. I've never had a piezo lighter work to it's intended purpose @ elevations above 8500 ft. Auto igniters on stoves don't seem to have this same problem, but lighters do. My suggestion is to purchase a half dozen disposable butane lighters & use them instead. I've never experienced any problems with them & they are A LOT LESS EXPENSIVE!!!
