I've used this as my carry-on for the last year without any problems in Europe, Central Asia and North America.

I currently have the terra 40 and have had no problem as a carry on.

Provided you dont stuff it to max or over capacity it will fly as a carry on just fine. Most 35L packs are no problem as carry ons provided they arent over stuffed.

You can definitely compress this in length..How much is up to you, it just depends on what you aren't going to pack..or how compressible your stuff is.
