I would like to know if being squished around in a backpack and getting soaked will have compromised the long term effectiveness of this harness. Basically, is it still safe to catch falls?

being squished isnt so much of an issue as being soaked. dont let your harness stay wet, if it gets wet let it dry asap and especially before storing. if you store it wet then there will be a breakdown of the fibers and decrease the longevity of your harness.
