Will or will not transistion sunglasses work when driving a car? My new won't darken when I am driving. I just had cataract surgery and put 'window glass' with transistion added. They work fine outside, but not when driving? Why?

I just heard this answer from an Oakley rep. Apparently they dont work in a car because of the roof over your head. It prevents the sunlight from hitting the glasses the way its needed in order for the lens to darken. Even though you get the light coming in from the windshield and windows, something about not having the right amount of UV rays hitting them prevents them from changing. If you had a convertible or a sunroof that you were directly under, that was the only instance they would work. She said many people returned the glasses because they were constantly squinting in their car. I was very interested in getting a pair of the transitional lens but that turned me away from them because I am in the car a lot. Hope that helps.
