if my (european) size is womans 38, does anyone know what size i would need in these shoes?

I have these in size 38. I wear a US size 8.5. They are a bit tight on the toes, but everything else fits great. I got them for my friend who wears US size 7. And they fit her very comfortably. The heel on these are amazing, and they are great long route shoes. I would suggest you down size at least to a 37. But if you have longer toes, keep it at a 38, these are meant for comfort.
