These poles are more for recreational cross country ski touring in or out of tracks. They have a larger oval basket that can float in deeper snow but is aerodynamic enough for the track. The strap as a quick release so you can click out of your poles without taking off the straps in order to remove a layer, blow your nose, help the kids, etc
